How to Inspire Yourself as a Blogger

For the last few weeks, I’ve been in a creative rut. Blogging is one of my passions, but I just haven’t been feeling inspired lately. Any blogger, no matter how long they’ve been doing it, knows what I’m talking about. Staying inspired can be challenging when you feel like you’re just another blogger shouting into the black hole of the internet. Those self defeating thoughts can make it almost impossible to create, and might even make the tiniest part of you want to throw in the towel.

The good news is, these feelings don’t usually last. At some point, you’ll have to come out of the other end with some little sprinkle of inspiration. While I was going through this period of feeling uninspired and unmotivated, I learned a few valuable lessons that I want to share, as I know this is a common theme in the blogging community. I hope at least one of these tips motivates you to re-inspire yourself.

Go exploring
This is one of my favorite ways to get inspired because it means I get to go out and have a little fun. Especially during the winter months, it can be hard to want to get out of the warmth of your home, but it’ll be so worth it once you’re actually out and about. Even the simplest of excursions like going to the park or a coffee shop can bring your creative soul to life again.

Recognize and validate
One of the worst ways to kill creativity is to feel guilty for not doing so. Remember that it’s normal to feel uninspired, and it’s not your fault. It’s not due to laziness or a lack of talent. In essence, be kind to yourself. It’s impossible to be on top of your game 24/7.

Write it down
Another one of my favorites. I always forget how much journaling actually helps until I do it. It can improve almost any situation if only you remember to do it. Write down what you’re feeling without judging yourself. Think about why you might be feeling uninspired, and write down a few things that might help. Sometimes, all it takes is just writing it down.

Read other blogs
Although this is something you might already be doing, try reading other blog posts with more intention. When you like someone's post, think about why you like it. Whether it the topic, their honesty, or their photos, try to figure out what they’re doing that you like, and let it inspire you. Of course, you should never plagiarize, but don’t be afraid to take something someone else has done and put your own twist on it. If you find yourself being inspired by someone’s blog, let them know! There’s no better feeling for a blogger than receiving a sweet message from someone who has enjoyed your content.

Write, write, write
As counterintuitive as it may seem, writing is one of the best ways to overcome writer's block. Even if you think what you’re writing is complete junk, keep writing anyway. Don’t let fear or judgement seep in, just write. Even the best ideas in the world started out as being pretty mediocre.
